Wall Street Journal - Israel's 60 Year Test

Sixty years after its birth, Israel continues to test the proposition that reality counts for more than Palestine_post perception.

The Web site eyeontheun.org keeps a running tally of all United Nations resolutions, decisions and reports condemning this or that country for this or that human rights violation (real or alleged). Between January 2003 and March 2008, tiny Israel – its population not half that of metropolitan Cairo's – was condemned no fewer than 635 times. The runners-up were Sudan at 280, the Democratic Republic of the Congo at 209, and Burma at 183. North Korea was cited a mere 60 times, a third as many as the United States.  See Wall Street Journal.  See Israel Then and Now.

Progress in Towaco

Towaco_village Revitalization plan is step in right direction - We're glad the planning board in Montville has endorsed an ordinance to allow 45 housing units and about 50,000 square feet of commercial space in Towaco. We understand some resident fears that the development would be too intense, but we simply do not see it that way.

The Towaco section of Montville can use some sprucing up. As of now, it's a bit static. If a community strives to stand in place, time passes it by, and it regresses.  The plusses here -- more vitality and a ratable increase of an estimated $29.8 million -- outweigh concerns that the character of Towaco will be altered. In truth, Towaco's character will be changed, but we think for the better.  See Daily Record.

N.J.'s problem is what it spends, not revenue

Crazyinsanity Wisniewski, Corzine, Lesniak & Co. do not get it. New Jersey already has the highest property tax rates, the highest auto insurance rates and the highest home housing costs in the nation. Wisniewski said we can afford to raise the gas tax so that it is "more in line with national averages and neighboring states."

Do they also want New Jersey to have the highest gas tax and tolls in the country?

They fail to fundamentally grasp the state's budget problem: New Jersey does not have a revenue problem; New Jersey has a spending problem.

Deconstructing Media Bias: The Jerusalem Massacre

The further the Palestinian Arabs move toward a barbaric Islamic theocracy, the deeper the support for them among the cadre of "progressive" journalists. An example of the entrenched bias is last Thursday's (March 6) article from the Associated Press, "7 die in shooting at Jerusalem seminary."  Let us first examine the headline: "7 die." Seven what-people? Martians? And they are not killed, they simply "die," in the passive sense, as if from a stroke.
