Father-Son bookclub at Montville Library

Montville Twp Public Library is planning a Father Son Book Club Group. The group would be targeted at young adults grades 6-8 and 9-12 and their fathers. If there is enough interest in a Father Son Club for younger children, we could plan for that age group as well.

The first title for the Young Adult/Father & Son Book Club is tentatively Mysterious Island by Jules Verne. Part of the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea series, this lesser known book is thought by many to better than the signature title.

The first meeting will be in April at 7 PM on a date to be determined.

If you are interested, please register with Ron Rizio at 973-402-0900 ext 222 or stop by the program coordinator/teen librarian’s office 9 AM-5 AM Mon-Fri or 1 PM-9PM on Wednesdays.

USS New York christened

Ussny Thousands of people, including families of those who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, gathered Saturday for an at-times chilling and rallying service to christen a Navy ship built with twisted steel from the ruins of the World Trade Center.

The hulking grey USS New York, which abruptly rose from the horizon, bore a seal on the bow bearing 7.5 tons of steel from the site. The shield included two gray bars to symoblize the Twin Towers; a banner over that declared "Never Forget."  See New York Sun.

Montville animal shelter arranges another adoption

Two abandoned Rottweilers find home with Holland Twp. couple - Abbott and Costello have found a Abbott new home. The 2-year-old male Rottweiler mix dogs were brought to the Montville Animal Shelter in July after their owner claimed she found them abandoned near Tourne Park in Boonton Township.

Nearly eight months later, the dogs -- named for the vaudevillian duo by shelter workers for their goofy antics -- have been adopted by a young couple in Hunterdon County. Gail Strumph, the township's animal control officer, said the new owners read of the plight of the pooches in the Daily Record in late January and inquired about adopting them.  Shelter workers had hoped to find a single home for both animals and were thrilled by the couple's interest.  See Daily Record.

Many thanks to Animal Control Officer Gail Strumph and assistant animal control officer Sandy Burkhart!!
