“Morris Canal Comes to Montville Twp”

“Morris Canal Comes to Montville Twp “ is the subject of the next “Glimpses of the Past History Series” at the Montville Township Historical Society’s program, February 13 (Monday), 7:30 p.m. in the Montville Township Senior House, 356 Main, Montville.

The Morris Canal is 102 miles along its entire length.  Approximately two and a half miles run through Montville and Towaco.  Montville has three planes due to the height the canal must overcome.  The canal impacted the area, bringing in workers, taverns, stores and new way of life.  A murder occurs impacting the residents while the canal also provided employment and goods.

We have lots of new photos which provide details of the canal.

The program is presented at the Montville Township Historical Society Meeting February 13 (Monday), 7:30 p.m. in the Montville Township Senior House, 356 Main, Montville.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Valentine's DayHappy Valentine's Day from OurMontville.com!

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

March 18 - Cell Tower Discussion at Towaco Firehouse

From Committeewoman Deb Nielson

A proposed cell tower, 126' in height is in the preliminary stages of discussion by the Towaco Fire District.  Download FD Tower Proposal

At present there is an existing cell tower on their property at 27 White Hall Road.  Apparently Verizon is contemplating replacement of the existing cellular tower with a higher tower to improve service in the area. To my knowledge, details have not been finalized at this time. The Towaco Fire Commissioners discussed this proposal in 2014, and I am told the proposal and contract is referenced in the meeting minutes for June, 2014 and December, 2014. The minutes can be accessed via towacofd.org, then click on Commissioners.

We Will Never Forget 9/11

Never ForgetQuote from President George W. Bush - “Time is passing.  Yet, for the United States of  America, there will be no forgetting September 11th.  We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief.  We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children.“

“Our enemies have made the mistake that America’s enemies always make. They saw liberty and thought they saw weakness. And now, they see defeat.”

Happy Mother's Day!!

Mother's Day I could give you diamonds
for each tear you cried for me.
if I could five you sapphires
for each truth you've helped me see.
If I could give you rubies
for the heartache that you've known
If I could give you pearls
for the wisdom that you've shown.
Then you'll have a treasure, mother,
that would mount up to the skies
That would almost match
the sparkle in your kind and loving eyes.
But I have no pearls, no diamonds,
As I'm sure you're well aware
So I'll give you gifts more precious
My devotion, love and care.             Author unknown

Celebrating Columbus Day - The History and the Controversy

Nina, pinta and santa maria Celebrated on the second Monday in October, Columbus Day marks the day in 1492 when Christopher Columbus set foot in the New World. Today, parades and parties in many cities and towns commemorate the holiday across the United States as well as Latin America and Europe. Although it began as a celebration of the accomplishments of one man, Columbus Day has come to mean many things to many people.

Italian Americans celebrate the history of their culture, Latin Americans celebrate their ancestors and Native Americans celebrate their people’s resistance to invaders. The history of Columbus’ voyages and what has happened in the places he claimed for Spain has led to both celebration and protest in many parts of the world.  Continue reading Lifescript.
