Montville Township Historical Society Presents “Passaic River: 81 Miles of History“

Fal“Passaic River: 81 Miles of History“ is the subject of the next “Glimpses of the Past History Series” at the Montville Township Historical Society’s program, November 9 (Monday), 7:30 p.m. in the Montville Township Senior House, 356 Main, Montville. Phil Jaeger follows the river through seven counties from its source in Mendham to its end in Newark Bay with an emphasis on historic activities and structures along the river in past centuries. The program will also focus on sights which are or were located along the length of the Passaic River such as historic structure such as early mills, canal/trolley/railroad crossings, extant Native American art and constructions, the country’s first planned industrial city and the heroic exploits of the “great descender” Sam Patch. The Passaic River also figured in the first successful test of a submarine.

Author Dan Gutman Entertains While Teaching Writing

That's too much pressure!”But Gutman, the award-winning author of several series of popular books, including THE GENIUS FILES, MY WEIRD SCHOOL and BASEBALL CARD ADVENTURES, did not disappoint. “We have prepared all year for his arrival,” said Hilldale Elementary School Principal, Jill Cisneros. “This school, these students, and this staff, we are all very excited to have Dan Gutman here to talk with us today.”Gutman, who conducted three separate assemblies, one for grades one and two; one for grades three, four and five; and one for kindergarten, was indeed amazing.

Cedar Hill Elementary is a “Blaze” with Halloween fun

1On Friday, October 23, 2015, the Home and School Association of Cedar Hill Elementary School, in Towaco, New Jersey, held its Sixth Annual Halloween Blaze. The "Blaze" is a tradition where Cedar Hill families participate by making their most creative and carefully carved pumpkins while other Cedar Hill families vote for the best in four different categories: Most Original, Scariest, Best Carved and Cutest. The Blaze enjoyed a large turnout this year. Dozens of pumpkins, made by kindergarten through fifth grade families, were entered in the four categories. Students were encouraged to wear costumes, and plenty of pumpkins, treats, music and fun were available for everyone.

Community Unites to Build Beauty

5 pumpkin 009 copyScarecrows, pumpkins, mums and corn stalks have become part of the landscape at Woodmont Elementary School. Burnt umbers, bright oranges, and deep purples fill gardens which line the sidewalks and foundations. Students, parents, faculty, maintenance staff and administrators have united to build beauty for today and the future. At Woodmont Elementary, in Pine Brook, New Jersey, what started as an outdoor beautification project for the season has quickly grown into an educational initiative for the ages.

Mayor Discusses ‘State of Montville Township’ at Chamber of Commerce Meeting

Montville Township Mayor Scott Gallopo spoke to the Montville Township Chamber of Commerce on Commercemeeting October 13 at the Columbia Inn restaurant. His topic was “The State of Montville Township.” The meeting entailed Gallopo explaining how the Township’s government works, the Township Committee talking about the redevelopment of areas in town, township projects, and other township goals.
