Denville Kiwanis Bicycle Rodeo June 6th, 2015



KiwanisdenvilleOn Saturday June 6, 2015 from 9am to 12pm the Denville Kiwanis Club will be sponsoring a bicycle rodeo in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of Kiwanis International.  The rodeo is the Denville Kiwanis Club’s birthday gift to Denville.  Also participating in the rodeo will be Cycle Craft Bicycle Shop, Denville Police Department and KJ Fleury from New Jersey Safe Kids.  There will a registration table where attendees can register and sign up for the drawing for a kids bike donated by Cycle Craft and five $50 gift cards to Cycle Craft donated by the Denville Kiwanis Club. There will be a helmet safety table operated by New Jersey Safe Kids, a bicycle safety table operated by Denville Police, and a bicycle inspection table operated by Cycle Craft.  There will also be a hydration table with a 100th anniversary birthday cake.  At noon the rodeo will finish up with a bike ride.

Dr. Karen Cortellino Received Distinguished Certified Board Leader Award

Cortellino max BOE 126 copyThe New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) presented the Certified Board Leadership Award to Dr. Karen Cortellino in April. Cortellino, the President of the Montville Township Boar
d of Education (BOE), received the award for having received over 60 educational credits at the NJSBA Board Member Academy. Certified Board Leader is the highest honor awarded by NJSBA. According to the NJSBA website, “The Certified Board Leader Award covers those areas of board governance identified as critical to effective functioning.” In order to qualify, Cortellino took Board of Education related courses in the areas of: Sustainability/STEM, Advocacy, Communications, Labor Relations, Finance, Leadership, Governance, Student Achievement, and Legal/Policy.

Dr. René T. Rovtar Expected to be Appointed Next Superintendent of Montville Township Public Schools

The Montville Township Board of Education is expected to appoint Dr. René T. Rovtar as the Rene Rovtar headshotdistrict’s new Superintendent on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at 7:00 PM. All members of the Montville Township community are invited to a reception in honor of Dr. Rovtar. The event will be held, following the board’s anticipated appointment of Dr. Rovtar, at the Montville Township Municipal Building, 195 Changebridge Road in Montville.

Montville UNICO Has Awarded $16,000 in Educational Grants

Montville UNICO has awarded $16,000 in educational grants to Morris County residents. The Montville Unicoparticipants, all high school seniors, were considered in three categories; financial need, academics, and extracurricular activities.  A $4000 Italian Studies Grant, that goes to a student who has studied Italian for 2 years or more and promoted Italian culture, in addition to the other qualifying factors, went to Talia Antonacci  from Parsippany Hills High School.  Four additional grants of $3000 went to Anastasia Bohon from Morris Hills High School, Sam Cali from Don Bosco, and Hannah Simon and Genevieve Lake both from Montville High School.  Congratulations to all!
