Montville Forensics Earns School of Honor

On June 20, Montville Township High School (MTHS) Forensics Coach Mary Gormley accepted Forensicsthe team’s first National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) School of Honor sweepstakes award at the 2014 NSDA National Tournament was held from June 15-20 in Overland Park, Kansas.  Gormley has been attending the NSDA National Tournament with MTHS Forensics for 34 years. Three MTHS Forensic team members qualified to attend the national competition. Senior Joshua Feldman missed the June 19 MTHS graduation ceremony to join the MTHS team in national competition. He performed against more than 730 national competitors in both the Humorous Interpretation and Prose Reading categories.

10th Grade Eagle Scout Builds Shed For Lazar Environmental Club

Photo EagleDavid Champion, a sophomore at Montville Township High School, completed his Eagle Scout community service project this July. The Troop 64 member built a shed for the Environmental Club at the Robert R. Lazar Middle School. Champion, who was an active member of the club while attending Lazar, chose to construct the shed to house supplies and serve as a meeting site for the organization. Construction of the new space began in April, and was completed in July; in time to prepare it for the launch of the 2014-2015 academic year. “It’s exciting to have a new home,” said Lazar science teacher, and Environmental Club advisor, Matt Myers.

Baseballs Helps Kids With Cancer

Danny Fariello’s TREP$ project at Valley View Elementary in Montville, through which he sold Lincoln Town Ballbaseballs with inspirational messages to help kids with cancer, has resulted in more than 200 baseballs sold, raising almost $5,000 for pediatric cancer research. He delivered the baseballs Monday, June 9, to kids fighting cancer at Morristown Medical Center. Continue reading northjersey.com

Montville School Helps Peace Corps Build a Library

DrHilldale Elementary School in Montville Township donated books to the Peace Corps for the Community Library Project. Residents of El Coyote in the Dominican Republic received these books with gratitude and excitement. For two years the town of El Coyote has been building a library, but did not have the necessary materials or books to fill it. Through Susan Stine, a Peace Corps volunteer and the Peace Corps project partner, Hilldale Elementary School was able to provide books to fill the library. The students organzied a Montville-wide Spanish Book Collection throughout the Montville Township Public School District. Through this book collection, over 200 Spanish language books were collected. Montville Kiwanis Seeks Volunteers

Summer brings plenty of opportunities to soak up the sun and retreat to the Shore, but not everyone’s Kiwaniskicking back this season. For some families, a sunny day is easily overshadowed by the uncertainty of not knowing where their next meal will come from. Manhattan Labs Opens Montville Location

Manhatten labsManhattan Labs is pleased to announce that it’s new patient service center located at 170 Changebridge Road in Montville, NJ has been welcomed into the Montville community by patients in the area. Due to its close proximity to Montville Township High School, multiple doctors’ offices, corporations, assisted living facilities and residences, the patient service center provides access to fast turn- around times and clinical testing with minimal wait times during lunch breaks and before work. According to survey results, patients appreciate this Manhattan Labs patient service center location.

Montville UNICO Hosts 25th Golf Outing

Montville UNICO will host its 25th annual golf outing on Monday, August 18, at the Brooklake UnicoCountry Club in Florham Park, with a shotgun start at 12:30p.m. A package of $300 includes brunch, 18 holes of golf, cocktail hour, gourmet buffet dinner, one hour open bar, prizes, including a new car on Par 3 hole. This year the first $5000 of proceeds will be donated to the St. Barnabas Burn Foundation and the balance to UNICO educational grants and charitable goals. Contact Pete Melillo at 973-386-1300. Cedar Hill and Woodmont Elementary Schools are Searching for 1965 Graduates

Signs b copyMontville’s “Twin” Schools Celebrate 50 Years of Education and Community.  It’s been 50 years since Cedar Hill and Woodmont Elementary Schools graduated the first classes that attended the “twin” Montville Township Public Schools. For the 2014-2015 school year, both schools hope to commemorate their beginnings with visits and stories from those who attended the schools during the 1964-1965 year. “We are looking for graduates from that first class to help our students and teachers celebrate,” explained Dr. Michael Raj, Principal of Cedar Hill.
