Montville UNICO Announces Educational Grants

Montville UnicoMontville UNICO announced it is this year making available $16,000 in educational grants to graduating high school seniors in Morris County. The applicants must be of Italian heritage and will be judged on a combination of financial need and overall GPA. Two of the grants will be $3000 each. Two will be $5000 each with the additional requirement of at least 2 years of Italian studies. Applications are available from school guidance offices or contact Anthony Malanga at amalanga@comcast.net . Questions or more information is also available from Mr. Malanga. 12 Year Old Montville Boy Helps Neighbors This Winter

StefanhydrantStefan Krysyna has never shied away from hard work or helping others. During one of New Jersey’s snowiest winters on record, the sixth grader attached a plow to the front of his father’s ATV and spent the winter keeping his neighbors’ driveways clear.After he finished plowing, he returned to each house to shovel walkways, making sure residents would be able to enter and leave their homes. “It was a tough winter. I like to help people as much as possible ... I’m very close to my grandparents and I always help them. That made me want to help these other seniors,” said Stefan, 12, who lives in the Pine Brook section of Montville with his dad Bogdan, mom, Lesia and sister, Taisa. Continue reading dailyrecord.com.

Montville UNICO is in the Planning Stages of the 3rd Annual San Gennaro Festival

Montville UNICO is planning to continue it's annual cultural celebration by presenting it's 3rd Montville UnicoFestival of San Gennaro on September 11th thru 14th. Admission is free. There will be rides, games, entertainment, a 50/50, and of course great food. We are expanding this year's program to accommodate more vendors and make the festival more enjoyable. Theatre Gets New Curtain

Fotor0312160920The Montville Township High School Dr. Robert O. Stafford Auditorium [MTHS] received a new curtain last week, just in time for the March 13 premiere of the musical, “The Wizard of Oz.” The velour grand drape was a gift to MTHS from the Student Activities Council [SAC]. The curtain, black with gold trim, was installed by Bloomfield Drapery on Wednesday, March 5.  The installation took more than 5 hours to complete. “We were all really for it,” explained junior and SAC Recording Secretary, Jillian Mizraji, about the purchase of the new curtain. “Especially with the play coming up.”The discovery of the need for a new curtain came to the attention of MTHS administrators during a recent stage floor refinishing project.

Student Artists Exhibit Work In Montville

Artwork is now on exhibit throughout Montville Township. During March, the Montville Township Fotor0312155848 Public Schools will be celebrating Youth Art Month [YAM] by displaying collections of extraordinary student art throughout the community. The public is invited to visit the Montville Township Public Schools’ Board Offices, at 86 River Road, to view outstanding art work produced by several of Montville’s elementary through high school students. Paintings, sculptures and photography are among the varied art forms on display throughout Montville Township. In addition to the Schools’ Board Offices, art is also on exhibit at the Montville Township Public Library, 90 Horseneck Road, the Montville Post Office, 16 Skyline Drive, and the Montville Town Hall, 195 Changebridge Road. Works by student artists from all seven Montville Township Public Schools can be viewed by everyone in the community until the end of the month.

Montville Chamber of Commerce Awards Citizens

Chamber 030914 030 copyThe Montville Township Chamber of Commerce held its 2013 Awards Banquet on Sat., Mar. 8, 2014. Four of this year’s eight recipients have worked closely for many years with the Montville Township Public Schools. Current Montville Township Board of Education Member, Charles Grau, received the Montville Township Chamber of Commerce Silver Service Award. Grau, who received the Chamber’s Citizen of the Year Award in 1986, has served several terms on the Montville Township Board of Education. New Board Member, Michael F. O’Brien received the Chamber’s Public Service Award. O’Brien was one of the first educators to serve the district when Montville Township High School [MTHS] was built.
