Bimonthly Bios: A Closer Look Behind Montville’s Business Owners

It’s not every day that you meet a woman who has combined three careers into one while managing Biographies her own business that she had never intended to start—but Montville’s very own Ellen Rader Smith defies the odds. “I’m a licensed occupational therapist, certified professional ergonomist, and certified vocational evaluator. Occupational therapists are healthcare professionals that work with people to help get them back to their optimal functioning, whether they’ve had an injury or an illness.  We help them resume their performance of activities of daily living, recreational activities, and work.  As a vocational evaluator, I look to see how a person’s injury or illness affects his or her ability to work, and if that person has the ability to resume the same, alternate, or any work.  As an ergonomist, I assess a person at his or her workstation to see how it might contribute to any musculoskeletal problems, and, if so, using ergonomic principles, adjust the workstation to accommodate his or her needs.” Continue reading Ellen Rader Smith
