One small step for Montville woman

Like millions worldwide watching the same image beamed from space, Florence Pipes was transfixed as the Eagle lunar module landed and moondust swirled on her television screen.

And as Neil Armstrong stepped down from the spacecraft and uttered those famous words, Pipes swelled with more than just national pride. The Apollo 11 mission on July 20, 1969, also was a personal victory.

Pipes, then an employee with Marotta Controls Inc. in Montville, assembled valves for space vehicles used by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

The then-36-year-old, who went by Florence Larson before remarrying, had been previously honored by NASA and Boeing Aircraft for her work with the company.  Marotta designs systems for the aerospace, military and marine industries.

Dr. Tanya Maximoff completes LASER Training with Sports Industry Doctor

Dr Tanya Maximoff has just completed a comprehensive Low Level Light Therapy (LASER) training in Rhode Island with Dr. Jeff Spencer whose A list clientele include Tiger Woods, Bono, Lance Armstrong and the US cycling team with whom he was on the last 8 winning Tour de France teams. "I have been working with cold laser in my office since February and after this weekend I will never look at any injury the same way again!"

Montville U12 Lady Mustangs win NNJ State Championship!

A note of congratulations is in order for the Montville U12 Lady Mustangs in winning the NNJ state championship title last weekend, hosted here in Montville . The girls now advance to the Babe Ruth Middle Atlantic Region tournament this coming weekend, hosted in Hamilton , NJ . The winner of that tournament advances to the Babe Ruth Softball World Series!

No matter the outcome, this is already a great achievement by a really talented great bunch of dedicated young women.

Judge considers Morris polluted land suit

A federal judge is reviewing several lawsuits in a long-running dispute over contaminated land in Morris County.

The six-year-old case involves a 130-acre parcel of land in Montville that was once an apple orchard. U.S. District Judge Dickinson Debevoise heard arguments Tuesday.

The township bought 100 acres in the late 1990s to use as a public park and the rest was turned into an upscale housing development.

Several years ago, the soil was found to contain unacceptable levels of hazardous substances that were used as pesticides.

Residents of Bonnieview Lane have sued developer Woodmont Builders and the township. The township has sued the former owners of the property over who is responsible for cleanup costs.

Montville makes Money's annual 'Best Places to Live' list

Montville has been named No. 21 on Money magazine's annual "Best Places to Live" list, which was announced today.This year's survey focused on the nation's "best small towns," with populations between 7,500 and 50,000 people -- the same criterion used in 2007, when Montville was ranked No. 13 nationwide.

Warren Township in Somerset County was the top New Jersey town to make the 2009 list, coming in at No. 6. River Vale in Bergen County came in at No. 60.

Money rated Montville, population 22,300, for the relative affordability of single-family homes, many available for under $400,000, which the magazine considers reasonable for the area. The magazine also cited the its easy commutes to nearby Fortune 500 companies like Honeywell, Wyeth and Quest Diagnostics.
